Keeping bees might be the coolest hobby on the planet. Last night Melissa and I attended our first meeting at the Capital Region Beekeepers Association. For those of you that don't know Melissa she lovingly put your last Abeego order in the mail. We were two of at least 40 new members! That means over 40 new people in the Victoria area have expressed interest in backyard beekeeping this month. How inspiring!
The range of interested folks was vast. Young, old, 8 months pregnant, urban, rural and on. A young boy, likely 7 years old attended for his slightly older brother that had prior hockey practice commitments. He couldn't attend himself and begged his brother and mother to collect information.
I left with more bee inspiration than ever and that is shocking because I LOVE bees.
There is a serious group of seasoned bee keepers in the Victoria area. If you have ever dreamed about sharing a life with bees your first step is to become a member of the Capital Region Beekeepers Association. Connect with a mentor. Get hooked up with new backyard beekeepers. Learn first hand from those who have lived with bees. Hear stories of their first sting, the first time their bees swarmed, the last time the weather affected their hive. Feel the genuine love they have for bees and just try to walk away with out dreaming of your very own colony.
