Before foodie bloggers and online kitchen enthusiasts, where did you get your recipes?
If it was from handwritten notes on the back of a napkin as you watched the cooking channel, a chicken-scratched list of Grandma's impressively unmeasured ingredients, or a tattered copy of a Julia Child cookbook, we can relate.
Few things tell a greater story than a hard copy of a well-loved recipe. They have the ability to bring us back to a special moment in time and re-create treasured memories. Every flour-sprinkle or oil stain is a sign of a life well lived.

We asked our community to submit their most beloved recipes, and the response was nothing short of incredible! We've compiled a few of our favorite submissions and their stories below. Enjoy.

"My husband jotted this down after his aunt fed him these pancakes. As it turns out his grandmother made these for the farmhands in Saskatchewan, multiplying this by as many people as needed breakfast. It has been in his family for over 100 years, successfully, as he still insists on nothing but these!"

"My family's beloved Lemon-Dijon Chicken recipe. The story behind this stained and decaying piece of paper, is my dad STOLE it from a Canadian Living magazine eons ago at his doctors office! Still is one of our family favourites today. We have made this recipe so many times that it needed a little TLC with tape."

"Every Christmas, Nana would bake her Scottish Shortbread. When I moved out, I (more than once) asked her to write down the recipe for me--not only so I had it, but to have it in her handwriting. One of the last times she did this for me, she grabbed whatever paper was beside her on the side table--this notepad from a real-estate agent in the area (a pad of paper from which she wrote numerous notes) and wrote out her recipe for Shortbread.
I know the recipe by heart, but this piece of paper has travelled with me from every house I have lived in. Since she has passed, I use her baking tools and it gives me pause and a moment of reflection to think of her fondly and the time we had together. In fact, this wooden spoon is the one I use to cream the butter and sugar in step 1:-)
I miss her so much, but it's amazing how her memory lives on and is so present every time I bake this--which is every Christmas. The aroma of the buttery shortbread baking instantly brings me back to her kitchen :-)"

"When I was in 6th grade ( Well over 40 years ago!!!) we had a class assignment to bring in our favourite “collection”. It could be marbles, books, feathers etc etc. MY entry was my recipe box full of recipes that I typed out with my Moms old typewriter!!! I still have all of these original hand-typed recipes, and this FRESH PEACH COBBLER is still one of my favourites!!! The paper is brown and it is totally stained, but I LOVE it."
